We are an independent, apolitical and self-governing association of Polish judges.
Our main mission is to defend freedom and civil rights, which are the democratic foundations of Poland - a member of the the European Union.
We have been operating for more than 25 years, also as part of different international organisations of judges. We associate over 3,500 judges, most of them in Poland.

About Us

We are the largest association of judges in Poland, with over 3500 members, in 32 branches, which is about 1/3 of the total number of judges.

The strength of our Association is not only its number but the foundations on which it is built above all. The cornerstone is the principle of a democratic state of law, in particular the constitutional principle of the independence of courts and the independence of judges.

On this foundation, the Association, initiated in 1990 (initially under the name of the Association of Judges adjudicating "Iustitia"), built a beautiful story, which was largely co-created by the long-term President of the Board, Maria Teresa Romer.

Each judge of a common, administrative, military and Supreme Court judge may be a member of the Association, under the same conditions. All you have to do is just submit a membership declaration.

The Association is active in many fields, both at the central level, where there are 10 problem teams and at local Branches. Strong, autonomous Branches are the basis for the functioning and development of the Association.

Systemic matters are important for us, especially the judiciary system. Through the Team for the Organization of the Judiciary, we give opinions on draft legal acts, present our own concepts. In this context, we should also mention the Team for the Improvement of the Functioning of the Judiciary, which a few years ago prepared a draft amendment to the legal provisions entitled. "A court for a citizen."

Acting in the spirit of cooperation and social dialogue, the Association organized, under the patronage of the First President of the Supreme Court, the Round Table for the Judiciary, to which representatives of other authorities, self-governments and legal organizations and other non-governmental organizations invited.

Created on 24/09/2015 the Agreement of Vocational and Professional Associations and Law Societies is the development of this idea.

Because we know how important a good law is and how destructive it is to spoil it, a significant part of our activity is providing opinions on draft legal acts. They deal with this, among others Teams on Civil Law and Criminal Law.

We undertake activities for the legal education of the society. A special team was established, which develops the initiative taken at the Branches. The fruit of this activity is a unique legal guide for young people "Legal Kit - Lex without tears", developed under the direction of the Silesian Branch.

The statutory aims of the Association are to represent the professional and social interests of the judiciary environment, taking care of the authority of the judges and their due position in society. A special role in this area is played by two teams: Information and Disciplinary Misbehaviour Monitoring. We undertake a series of activities to improve the image of judges and courts in public opinion, including in electronic media. We try to be the voice of the environment, which is devoid of national representation. We treat the support of judges as well as the right to defence in disciplinary proceedings as one of the guarantees of judicial independence.

We are active in the international arena as a member of the International Association of Judges (IAJ), the European Association of Judges (EAJ) and the Association "European Judges and Prosecutors for Democracy and Freedom" (MEDEL). We are intrigued by the situation of the judiciary abroad, especially where the principles of a democratic state of law are violated. We show solidarity to judges who are affected by repression, eg. in Turkey.

One of the most important elements are activities for the unity and integration of the environment and professional development. Solidarity and the lack of divisions between judges are the conditions for achieving our goals. To achieve these goals, we organize trainings and conferences. The unprecedented action in terms of the importance and scale of the undertaking is the Extraordinary Judges Congress, convened jointly with other judges' associations and the National Council of the Judiciary on 3/09/2016, in which, as in the lens, all the fundamental values of "Iustitia" have been focused. .

Our Association is above all a community of these values. We share the conviction that the judges serve for citizens, the need for the activity of judges in the public space, based on internal cooperation and with other participants in social life. We want a strong, independent judiciary not for judges, but for a society that sees the judges the defenders and guarantors of their rights.
