Judge Agnieszka Brygidyr-Dorosz on 14th March 2023 sentenced activist Justyna Wydrzyńska to eight months of community service for helping to terminate pregnancy. On the same day, by order of Zbuigniew Ziobro - Minister of Justice, she was given a delegation to the Court of Appeal in Warsaw.
Judge Brygidyr-Dorosz informed about her promotion on Wednesday (15 March) during the trial of the 'king of dopers' Jan S., in which she is adjudicating. Antoni Kania-Sieniawski, the defendant's defence counsel in this trial, who was present, gave it to the media.
- During the trial, the judge announced that on 14th March, by order of Minister Ziobro, she had been granted a delegation to the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, he told “Polityka”. He also requested the judge's exclusion for fear that she was carrying out the sentences in accordance with the authorities' expectations.
Until now, the judge worked at the Warsaw-Praga District Court.
Quick promotion of the judge who sentenced Justyna Wydrzyńska
We recall. Justyna Wydrzyńska, an activist of the Abortion Dream Team, was sentenced by Judge Brigidyr-Dorosz on Tuesday, 14th March to eight months of restriction of liberty in the form of 30 hours of unpaid community service for helping to terminate a pregnancy.
Wydrzynska has been helping with abortions for 16 years. Her case came to court because Anna's ex-partner, one of the women she helped three years ago (she gave her her own abortion pills), reported everything to the police. Anna had signalled from the beginning that she was in a violent relationship. Justyna Wydrzyńska was threatened with up to three years in prison for "assisting in an abortion".
In front of the court building, people gathered in a solidarity demonstration. They thanked Wydrzyńska for her work so far. They brought banners with inscriptions such as "Like Justyna", "You will not go alone", "I am Justyna". Left-wing MPs also came to court, including Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Wanda Nowicka, Katarzyna Kotula, Magdalena Biejat and Marcelina Zawisza.
As we wrote in Gazeta Wyborcza, Wydrzyńska is receiving expressions of support from all over the world, from the United States, through Europe to Australia and Hong Kong. More than 150,000 people have already signed the appeal for her acquittal to the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro. The activist has been supported by, among others, the International Federation of Gynaecologists, Gynaecologists and Midwives (FIGO) and the UN, and the Belgian and French governments have sent financial support.
The career of the judge who sentenced Justyna Wydrzyńska has gained momentum
As the TVN24 portal reminds us, the career of Judge Agnieszka Brygidyr-Dorosz gained momentum under the Law and Justice government, when the new National Council of the Judiciary, appointed by the votes of Law and Justice politicians, came to power. Despite the opposition of the assembly of judges of the court of appeal, the politicised NCJ passed a resolution to appoint her as a judge.
